Cathy Sun, MD

Assistant Professor, Opthamology

Dr. Sun is an ophthalmologist with fellowship training in glaucoma, and a clinician-scientist with a passion for data-driven research and digital health innovation. She earned her MD from UCSF, completed an internal medicine internship at California Pacific Medical Center, residency in ophthalmology at UCSF, and glaucoma fellowship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. She has helped lead UCSF Dept of Ophthalmology’s participation in the SOURCE consortium and the IRIS Registry as an analytic center.

Research Overview:

Dr. Sun’s research interests are to improve clinical outcomes in ophthalmology using large datasets and by integrating clinical trials with routine patient care to prospectively conduct studies using electronic health record-based methods. She is actively engaged in helping to standardize eye-related data mapping through national OMOP Workgroups.
