Cathra Halabi, MD
Dr. Halabi is board certified in neurology and vascular neurology. In the hospital, she cares for patients with neurovascular emergencies like stroke. In the outpatient setting, she established the UCSF Neurorecovery Clinic to help patients recover from brain injuries including stroke, concussion, and other forms of traumatic brain injury (TBI). She co-developed the UCSF Post-Acute TBI Program to address recovery during the critical early months after injury. Dr. Halabi earned her bachelor’s degree in molecular, cell and developmental biology from UCLA with a minor in music history. She completed her medical degree, neurology residency, and vascular neurology fellowship, including an NIH StrokeNet research year, at UCSF. She is actively involved in national initiatives to advance brain injury research and care, including the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine Action Collaborative on TBI Care and the NIH StrokeNet Recovery and Rehabilitation Working Group.
As a clinician-researcher, Dr. Halabi focuses on identifying underrecognized neurological and other short- and long-term consequences of brain injury to uncover new screening and treatment opportunities. She aims to combine real-world insights from large datasets like the University of California Health Data Warehouse and her active outpatient programs to develop precision medicine care pathways for patients recovering from neurologic injury.
